Why Veteran Mental Health Services Matter

Thank you, military families

Veterans deserve excellent care. The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinics at Endeavors provides low-cost mental health services for Veterans and their families.

What is the Veteran Mental Health Crisis?

We are forever thankful for the men and women who bravely serve our country by serving in the United States military.

However, combat has its price, and no matter how many times we say, “Thank you,” the consequences of service-related trauma still linger, often leading to PTSD, depression, transition stress, and more

In fact, according to the National Council for Behavioral Health, 30 percent (730,000) of active duty and reserve military personnel deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan have a mental health condition requiring treatment; however, less than 50 percent of returning Veterans in need receive any mental health treatment at all.

By providing low-cost mental health services to Veterans and their families, The Cohen Clinics at Endeavors hopes to change that and provide help for Veterans in need.

How do the Cohen Clinics at Endeavors provide Veteran mental health services?

We’d like to emphasize: one size never fits all when it comes to mental health needs. Because of this, we try and provide a holistic, well-rounded array of services that take individual needs into account.

We are committed to using evidence-based practices to improve the quality of life for Veterans and their families— whether this means family counseling, group therapy, or specialty workshops.

Our services are managed through the Cohen Clinic Network with locations in San Antonio, El Paso, and Killeen and include…

Why is it low-cost?

Many Veterans have never sought help or care in regards to their mental health needs because therapy, counseling, and treatment can be incredibly expensive.

We aim to change that.

Thanks to the Steven and Alexander Cohen Foundation and Endeavors’ incredible supporters and donors, we are able to offer integrated mental health care to Veterans and their families, regardless of role, discharge status, or ability to pay

.

Why suicide prevention?

Recent statistics have shown that Veterans are 1.5 times more likely to die by suicide than non-Veteran adults, and female Veterans are 2.2 times more likely to die by suicide than non-Veterans.

We believe that Veteran health is worth fighting for— which is why we are dedicating more time, resources, and energy than ever into providing more mental health services and help for Veterans in need.

Endeavors’ current project is creating a $5 million Veteran Wellness Center in San Antonio that will focus on suicide prevention among Veterans. With unprecedented facilities, incredible services, and an innovative approach to promoting mental health, Endeavors’ Veteran Wellness Center will be the first of its kind in the entire state of Texas.

(Completion is scheduled for Winter 2021. We’ll see you at the grand opening!)

What if you don’t live close to one of our clinics?

You may have noticed earlier that we mentioned “online therapy” as a service that we offer. Telehealth is a hybrid between traditional therapy and online support— via video chat sessions, we are able to offer face-to-face therapy straight from your computer, tablet, or phone.

These discreet online video counseling sessions can happen from the comfort of your home, and it will include the same high-quality care available at an Endeavors® Cohen Clinic. This service is available throughout the state of Texas.

How do you sign up?

To find out how you can get connected with our Veteran mental health services, simply give us a call at 1-833-CVN-VETS. We hope you will! Veterans with PTSD can receive evidence-based trauma protocols on a weekly basis. In 2018, about 85% of clients who were diagnosed with PTSD reported symptom reduction.

If you or someone you know is exhibiting signs of PTSD, it may be time to schedule an appointment with one of our trained mental health providers. Our clinics are available and offer Telehealth, face-to-face therapy delivered online, to reduce barriers to care .
