Today, we’re saying a bittersweet good-bye to one of our Cohen Clinic Lead Clinicians, Travis Stevens, as he embarks on a new and exciting chapter of his career.
The new clinic was a phenomenon in San Antonio. As only the third clinic in the Cohen Veterans Network to open, its individualized approach to Veteran mental health care was going to be a game-changer in Military City, USA. Starting the new clinic was no small challenge, but Travis was uniquely qualified, and he began providing professional counseling services to Veterans and their families in March of 2016. The clinic started small, with just four clinicians and a small team of leadership and administrative staff. But this small team made a big difference in the lives of the clinic’s clients.
As the son and grandson of two US Veterans, Travis connected easily with his clients, tailoring their care to meet their individual needs. Not only was he a skilled clinician providing high-quality mental health care, he also leveraged his personal experience with Veterans and military families to connect with his clients in a very impactful way.
A natural leader, Travis was known for his diligent perseverance during the clinic’s early years, and in 2018 he stepped into the position of Lead Clinician. His new role offered the opportunity to mentor the social work students who interned at the clinic, which Travis always said was one of his favorite parts of the job. He also dedicated every day to providing top-quality professional care to hundreds of Veterans and their family members, helping people from all across San Antonio get #backtobetter.
After four years of serving Veterans and military families as a Clinician, Travis knew he wanted to serve in other ways, too. With the support of his family, he decided to leave his civilian job and join the Air Force, like his father.
This May, Travis will join the Air Force as a Clinical Social Work Officer. For Travis, wearing the Air Force uniform is an honor – a way of serving his country and carrying on the legacy of his father and grandfather.
The MFC clinic at San Antonio and the entire Endeavors family will miss working with Travis. He has proven again and again that he is incredibly dedicated to serving others, and uniquely qualified to do so in diverse capacities. As much as Endeavors is sad to see him go, we are so proud of the difference he has made in the San Antonio community, and prouder still that his career at our clinic has led him to a bright future in the Air Force.
