Our Veteran Wellness Center in San Antonio will empower Veterans, Veteran dependents, and surviving spouses of Veterans through high-quality wellness services.
For our nation’s Veterans, the impacts of service last far beyond their years in uniform. At Endeavors, we’re committed to supporting Veterans — and their families — both in and out of uniform. For years we have worked to improve Veteran mental health care, and access to care, through our Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinics and our Veteran Supportive Services. Now we are overjoyed to further our mission of serving Veterans and military families with the Grand Opening of our brand new, one-of-a-kind Veteran Wellness Center in San Antonio, Texas!
Whether you’ve been eagerly awaiting the Grand Opening (like we have!) or are just now learning about the Veteran Wellness Center (or VWC, as we like to call it), here are 9 articles that show all the ways this facility will change the way we view and approach Veteran wellness:
1. WHAT IS A VETERANS WELLNESS CENTER? HOW ENDEAVORS IS CHANGING THE FACE OF VETERAN WELLNESS
Our nation’s heroes face innumerable challenges after military service — from physical disabilities and unemployment, to lack of structure and the invisible wounds of mental health illnesses. The VWC provides vital services and resources to Veterans and their families. The goal? To help our heroes build the healthy, positive, and stable post-military lives they deserve.
2. WHY THIS SAN ANTONIO VETERAN WELLNESS CENTER IS UNLIKE ANY OTHER
Why San Antonio? Not only is Military City, USA home to Endeavors’ headquarters, but Texas has the second-highest population of Veterans. And yet, the VWC will be the first integrated wellness facility of its kind in the state. This blog does a deep dive into our holistic approach to Veteran wellness and of services we are bringing to the Texas military community.
3. BRINGING HEALTH HOME: HOW ENDEAVORS’ VIRTUAL SERVICES WILL SUPPORT VETERANS
To overcome the Veteran mental health crisis in America, we need to break down the barriers to mental health access. The VWC’s in-person and virtual (Telehealth) mental health services help eliminate geographic and financial barriers to care for Veterans, active duty service members, and military family members.
4. TEXAS VETERANS COMMISSION AWARDS ENDEAVORS VETERAN WELLNESS CENTER FOR VIRTUAL SERVICES
The Veteran mental health crisis in the United States has snowballed over the years and picked up even greater speed since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Thanks to a grant from our partners at the Texas Veterans Commission, the VWC began offering virtual mental health services over 12 months before the grand opening. That’s how vital these services are for Veterans right now.
5. 5 WAYS TO WELLNESS: HELPING VETERANS STAY HEALTHY
At the VWC, we believe in comprehensive, holistic wellness. What does this mean? It means treating and supporting the entire client, not just their symptoms. It also means supporting the entire family, and not just the Veteran. Here are 5 ways the VWC is doing just that.
6. 5 REASONS WHY FITNESS IS A CRUCIAL PART OF MENTAL HEALTHCARE
Unlike other Veteran wellness centers, the VWC at Endeavors features a fitness center and group fitness classrooms that will be open to all of our members. In fact, the exercise facilities will be just steps away from our counseling offices. Why? Let’s look at the science behind the connection between physical and mental wellbeing.
7. WELLNESS FOR ALL: ENDEAVORS AND ENERGY TRANSFER TEAM UP TO SUPPORT VETERAN FITNESS
If we’re building a wellness facility for all Veterans, it needs to be 100% accessible. Thanks to our generous corporate donors, the Fitness Center at the VWC will be a state-of-the-art facility featuring equipment for people of all ability levels, including Veterans with physical disabilities.
8. MORE THAN A FITNESS CENTER: THE VETERAN WELLNESS CENTER’S HOLISTIC APPROACH TO SUICIDE PREVENTION
At the Veteran Wellness Center, we offer a range of holistic programming — from fitness classes to group counseling to childcare — specifically designed to manage and alleviate the stressors that Veterans and their families experience, and combat Veteran death by suicide by supporting physical, mental, and emotional wellness.
9. THE ZERO SUICIDE INITIATIVE: WORKING TOWARDS SUICIDE-SAFER COMMUNITIES
Though we provide comprehensive wellness services, all of our programs at the VWC are designed to combat Veteran suicide. We firmly believe that, for individuals who receive professional care, death by suicide is 100% preventable. Here’s how we’re working towards suicide-safer communities at the VWC and beyond.
