Why This San Antonio Veteran Wellness Center is Unlike Any Other

Veterans Support & Mental Health Care

We’re building a brand new Veteran Wellness Center in San Antonio— here’s why we’re so excited.

When we first met Mr. Dayton (a US Air Force Veteran), he was homeless, jobless, and struggling with mental health issues.  Read Mr. Dayton’s full story here.

Despite the difficulties he was facing, he was trying his best to take care of his ill mother by picking up odd jobs in nearby towns and even staying in a nearby abandoned home.

It was clear from the beginning that Mr. Dayton was a dedicated worker, a loving son, and an honest man— he just needed the right tools and the right people to believe in him.

New Beginnings Start Here

We have found that, when we are able to connect Veterans to the right social services, they thrive in ways they never could have imagined.

Through a Veteran Supportive Services case manager at Endeavors, Mr. Dayton was given a place to live, basic supplies, and the opportunity to begin receiving mental health services. The case manager also helped him reinstate his GI Bill.

He went on to get accepted into the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Brownsville and is now participating in daily tutoring sessions to prepare himself for the next semester.

Strong, capable Veterans like Mr. Dayton inspired us to dream a little bigger when it came to our facilities. With Endeavors Veteran Wellness Center, we hope to help even more Veterans achieve their dreams.

Why San Antonio, Texas?

With unprecedented facilities, incredible services, and an innovative approach to promoting mental health, Endeavors Veteran Wellness Center will be the first of its kind in the entire state of Texas.

Why Texas, exactly? We want to reach as many veterans as possible! Texas currently boasts the second largest population of Veterans of any state in the US… and it’s growing. By 2020, it is estimated that Texas will pass the state of California’s Veteran population.

“The Wellness Center represents a first in Texas to provide integrated wellness services to those who have sacrificed so much already and I am privileged and honored to be a part of it,” said Chip Fulghum, Endeavors Chief Operating Officer.

Services That Really Work

Endeavors’ new facility will focus on smart services that really work to support the daily wellness choices of any era Veteran and their families.

“We are excited to offer low-cost wellness services under one roof to Veterans in the San Antonio community,” said Jon Allman, CEO of Endeavors.

Special offerings will include long-term therapy, long-term medication management, primary care, dental services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition services, yoga & tai chi, acupuncture, massage, physical fitness, and even chiropractic services.

“Referring our clients to quality mind, body, spirit set of services will allow the Veterans we serve the opportunity to achieve complete health and wellness,” said Annie Erickson, Senior Director of Community and Veteran Services.

The Wellness Center will also house the expansion of our Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic to continue caring for post 9/11 Veterans and their families.

A Focus on Suicide Prevention

One of the main focuses of the center will be suicide prevention among Veterans— recent statistics have shown that Veterans are 1.5 times more likely to die by suicide than non-Veteran adults, and female Veterans are 2.2 times more likely to die by suicide than non-Veterans.

Which is why so many of our offerings are focused on mental health, including treatment for depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

We believe this cause is incredibly important— worth the $5 million facility and additional $1.7 million in renovations for the new Military Family Clinic facility.

Completion is scheduled for Fall 2021. We’ll see you at the grand opening!
