The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio provides high-quality, accessible, and integrated mental health care available in person or via telehealth to Veterans, (regardless of role while in uniform, discharge status, or combat experience), active duty service members (with a TRICARE referral), and military families.

SERVICES OFFERED

  • Therapy (In-Person and Virtual)

    Receive services addressing depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, sleep problems, adolescent behavioral issues, relationship and family stress, etc. individually and together in the same place, at the same time, with the same treatment team. Services at the Cohen Clinics at Endeavors are provided by credentialed staff trained to work specifically with the military population.

    Our Cohen Clinics provide Telehealth, a virtual therapy option that allows clients to attend appointments in real-time through confidential, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing software. Shown to be equally as effective as in-person therapy, video conferencing therapy has become a viable alternative to traditional on-site therapy. To utilize Telehealth, clients need a secure internet connection and a device such as a smartphone, computer, or tablet with audio and video capabilities.

  • Case Management

    Based on specific needs, our case managers will link individuals to essential resources including housing, financial assistance, legal services, employment, education, etc., and will monitor referral results to ensure all needs are addressed.

  • Life-Skills & Wellness Events

    Additional activities to build positive life skills and encourage wellness are offered through our Cohen Clinics. Veterans, active duty service members, military families, and community partners are invited to take advantage of financial and employment workshops, caregiver and military informed care trainings, marriage management, couples cooking classes, women Veterans groups, Yoga, Tai Chi, and more.

  • Support Groups

    Our Cohen Clinics provide various support groups to help our clients achieve their goals. Topics in these groups include conquering anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, art therapy, and anger management, and are specially designed for Veterans, active duty service members, and military families who are looking to build new friendships, gain a renewed sense of community, strengthen bonds with others through shared experiences, and learn new solutions that will assist them in handling challenges.

  • Medication Management

    Our psychiatric nurse practitioners provide time-limited, evidence-based practices that serve individual adults, couples, families, and children. Diagnoses may include mood, anxiety, transition, adjustment, impulse control, conduct, learning, and mild developmental disorders, as well as PTSD.

Kristy Dean is the Regional Director of The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinics at Endeavors. She is an experienced clinical supervisor, therapist, and non-profit leader with a demonstrated history of working in the mental health care industry and in military settings. Kristy is skilled in crisis intervention, family therapy, clinical supervision, trauma, and life transitions.

She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage & Family Therapist, and a Texas state board approved LPC and LMFT supervisor. Kristy and her husband have two adult daughters whom they raised from the state foster care system.

They are also proud grandparents to 6 beautiful children. Kristy enjoys traveling, scuba diving, and time at home with their two dogs.

With advanced experience in couples, children, and family therapies, her treatment approach focuses on engaging the entire family system, rather than just the individual. Offering trauma-informed care, Rhonda is skilled in providing treatments such as Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

Prior to working at the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, she worked closely with active duty service members, providing intensive services at a Partial Hospitalization Program in the Killeen/Fort Hood area.

Rhonda’s unique experience of growing up in a military family and expertise in working with the family system allows her to lead the team from a system and relational perspective, focusing on offering the best care for military-connected families.

Amanda Cantu is the Assistant Clinic Director for The Steven A. Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio, where she assists with leading and ensuring all clinical staff offer quality care services to veterans and military families that we serve.

Amanda completed her master’s program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2015 with Walden University and had her initial training working with children and adults in a community mental health setting in the Rio Grande Valley. Amanda became a fully licensed LPC with the state of Texas in 2017, and later became a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in 2022 to assist with training new therapists in their journey on becoming a counselor. Amanda has advanced experience in providing therapy services for individuals, couples, and children. Amanda is skilled in trauma informed care and providing treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, play therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Prior to working at The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, Amanda worked with the Department of Veteran Affairs in San Antonio, TX as a Supervisory LPC in the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program. Amanda has been able to provide therapy services to Veterans since 2021 working with the VA and continues to have a passion in working with Veterans, military members, and their families. 

David Alvarado

David (Dave) Alvarado serves as the Office Manager for The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio. He strives to build a positive client experience through management of the clinic’s day to day administrative operations that supports the clinical, outreach, and case management staff. Process improvement through tracking of key performance indicators (KPI’s), verifying authorizations, billing inquiries, and management of operational expenses and supply inventory are also under his preview.

Dave retired from the Air Force after of 26 years of service as a medic. During his service he had multiple deployments and oversaw the Hospital Inpatient Units including Intensive Care Unit, Labor & Delivery, and the Medical/Surgical Units. He has a diverse history of leadership and customer service along with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Studies and a Master’s degree in Homeland Security. He has been recognized for his volunteer work with the Institute for Human Services Soup Kitchen and Overseas Special Olympics. Joining the Cohen Clinic team gives him an opportunity to continue to serve those who serve or have served and their families.

Dave enjoys spending time with family, watching foreign films, exploring culinary adventures, football, and opportunities to learn and teach new things.

Dr. Karina L. Bocanegra is a Supervising Clinician for The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio, and has worked in the behavioral health field since 2013.
A native El Pasoan, Karina holds a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at El Paso in Psychology. Additionally, she holds both a Master’s degree and a Doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.
With clinical experience including individual counseling, as well as couple and family therapy, Karina helps the Cohen Clinic treat couples and families with relationship issues using evidence-based practices and treats individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Karina is fluent in both English and Spanish and has experience in Crisis Response Planning and was selected to be part of the Minority Fellowship Program of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists for two years in a row, where she presented her research on Hispanic soldiers and substance abuse.
Coming from a Veteran family in which her grandfather, father, and older sister all served on active duty, Karina is familiar with the many challenges service members and their families face.
In her spare time, Karina enjoys spending time with her three pups and hiking with her husband.

Jen Hoag Wydler, LCSW-S, LCDC is a Licensed Clinical Social Work Supervisor and has been a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor within and outside the military setting. She retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service.  Throughout her career, she moved to 8 installations and deployed 3 times.  Prior to her own career, she moved with her family to 5 different installations.  Many members in her family served in the military including her spouse.  Jen works at The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors in San Antonio which provides trauma therapy through evidence-based therapy protocols for active-duty military, veterans, and their family members.  Her focus is providing evidence-based trauma therapy and working with couples.  She is trained in the cognitive behavior therapies, motivational interviewing, emotion focused therapy, cognitive processing therapy, prolonged exposure therapy and written exposure therapy.   She is also committed to growing the field of clinical social work and helping clinicians to excel.

Davie White is a Regional Data Manager for The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinics at Endeavors. In his role, Davie coordinates, develops, and creates reports that show the clinic’s health by making key performance indicators (KPIs) readily readable.

Additionally, Davie is the administrator for the Electronic Health Record (EHR); he is responsible for upholding data integrity and maintaining up-to-date records by using data visualization software that shows if there are missing, overdue, or out-of-the norm items. Davie’s background and experience in hardware repair allow him to contribute to the clinic as the De Facto onsite IT tech. He took it upon himself to learn Tableau Desktop, the record-keeping interface for Cohen Veteran Network and earned his Tableau Desktop Specialist Certification.

A U.S. Navy Veteran, Davie is a current Assistant Scoutmaster with a local Boy Scout Troop, where he mentors scouts in the area of personal fitness, archery, and orienteering. He is also a second degree Black Belt in the Korean martial art of Mu Sool Won, a Level 1 Certified Instructor with the United States Archery Association (USA Archery), and a Harley Davidson rider.

A Clinician for The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio, Laillah Guice is a Licensed Professional Counselor who served 20 years in the military. As a combat Veteran who served in Afghanistan, Laillah is proud to have served in two military branches, dividing her time between the United States Navy and United States Air Force.
After retiring from the military, she obtained a Master’s degree in Counseling, leading her to an internship at the Vet Center, where she served Combat Veterans and Veterans who had experienced Military Sexual Trauma. She then transitioned to a Partial Hospitalization Program, outpatient clinic, where she treated acutely mentally ill and active-duty military patients.
Laillah’s areas of focus are military sexual trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), combat traumas, non-combat traumas, and couples counseling. When she is not serving her family, Veterans, and military families, Laillah is serving her community through speaking engagements, sharing her knowledge and expertise to empower others to stay on the path of mental health.
She has a passion for creating essential oil blends for physical wellbeing and loves to share the recipes she creates with friends and family.

Olufunke (Olu) Adetunji is a Clinician for The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio, where she provides individual therapy to children, adolescents, and adults, as well as group therapy to couples and families. She is a licensed supervisor and recently took on the role of providing supervision to an intern.
Olu’s professional experience includes both clinical and administrative responsibilities. With her clinical experience including areas of assessment and diagnosis, trauma, adjustment disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, and disruptive disorders, Olu has extensive training in Play Therapy, is a certified Sandtray Therapist, and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

She graduated with honors with her Master of Social Work from the Worden School of Social Work, Our Lady of the Lake University, and is licensed in the state of Texas. Jenny is known for her empathy, intentionality, and professionalism. She is certified and provides therapy services through Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Insomnia.

Jenny is also passionate about her music, serving as a worship leader for her church, and signing for military special events in the community.

Frankie Lara is a Clinician for the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio, and has worked in the behavioral health field since 2011.

A native Texan, Frankie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Minor in Neuroscience from Texas A&M University. Frankie was selected as a Texas A&M University Undergraduate Research Scholar for 2 years in a row, winning 1st Place in Taxonomy each year for his research and moved on to be first author of several publications. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from Texas A&M University in San Antonio, Texas.

With clinical experience including individual counseling, adolescent, and couples and family therapy, Frankie helps the Cohen Clinic treat adults and adolescents with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) using Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), as well as a range of other disorders using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Frankie has extensive practice in treating individuals in the community who are at acute risk of crisis, who experience complex trauma, with Serious Mental Illness, and with high comorbidities, including the position of Clinical Practitioner at the Haven for Hope Homeless Shelter and the position of Program Director at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio for the HHSC Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Program.  He was eager to bring these skills to Endeavors to help their most destitute clientele.

Coming from a Veteran family in which both grandfathers, uncles, and brother previously or currently serve on active duty, along with prior experience treating veteran’s and their families, Frankie is familiar with the many challenges service members and their loved one’s face.

Andrew Santos is the Clinic Community Liaison for The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio where he is responsible for the recruitment of clients through various outreach opportunities and life skills trainings. He works closely with local community partners including veteran service organizations, multi-service organizations, the military population, the Veterans Administration, and many others to communicate that our services are available to those in need. Graduating at the top of his class, Andrew holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership. In his off time, Andrew enjoys riding his bike, walking his dog Raina, playing basketball, and spending time with his daughter and family

Lara graduated from UTSA with a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Texas Lutheran University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, watching movies, and spending time outdoors.

Klarissa Flores is a Clinician for The Steven A. Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio, where she brings her coordination skills and clinical skills she has developed during her time at Endeavors. In her role she is responsible with coordinating and screening appropriateness for care while also keeping a clinical caseload within the military community.

Klarissa is skilled in providing treatments such as CBT, CPT and play therapy as well as administration coordination.

Klarissa holds a masters degree in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio as well as a bilingual counseling certification and is an LPC Associate supervised by Frankie Lara LPC-S. . Klarissa has extensive knowledge in working with military veterans.

Whether taking initial calls, gathering personal information, referring potential clients to the appropriate clinician, assisting with scheduling appointments as needed, or supporting the office manager and clinical staff, Antoinette takes pride in her work and is always ready to help those in need.   

As a Veteran, Antoinette is passionate about assisting Veterans, active duty service members, and their families. She enjoys being part of a diverse team serving the Veteran community via the Cohen Clinic.

Stephanie Mitchell is a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (MFT-A) Fellow for the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio.

Stephanie holds a Bachelor in Psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She attended Our Lady of the Lake University where she graduated with a Master of Science with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Stephanie started in the mental health field in 2008. During this time, she was inspired by clients; this prompted her to attend school with goal of becoming a therapist.

Since graduating with her master’s degree, she has been providing therapy services for couples, families, and individuals. Her therapeutic approach includes using a systemic framework and utilizing various cognitive approaches when collaborating with clients.

She enjoys spending time with her two kids and their dog Jerry. She also loves reading, riding her bike on the San Antonio trails, and curling up on the couch watching anything Jane Austen.

Adrienne Gery is a Clinical Fellow for The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio, where she provides therapy for individuals, couples and families. Adrienne is currently a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFT Associate) under the supervision of our clinic director. She is working toward her full licensure as a LMFT. Adrienne served in the United States Army for nine years, during which she took on multiple roles and additional duties, including resilience trainer and sexual harassment/assault victim advocate. Adrienne holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Maryland Global Campus, that she obtained while in the military.

Shortly after transitioning out of the Army, Adrienne continued her education, earning her master’s degree in psychology with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Our Lady of the Lake University, so that she could further pursue her passion for helping others. Adrienne is especially passionate about destigmatizing the many mental health difficulties that can be experienced by military veterans and their families and being a witness and advocate to positive therapeutic change and growth!

Prior to working at the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, Adrienne worked closely with active-duty service members, veterans, and first responders, providing treatment for substance dependency and co-occurring mental health challenges at a Residential Treatment Center.

In her free time, Adrienne enjoys catching up on her favorite TV shows, spending time with her pets, friends, and family, and singing karaoke.

Sharita is privileged to have a dual military connection as a Veteran of the United States Air Force Reserve and serving as a military spouse and is honored to serve the military community. She is a licensed Master Social Worker with a wealth of experience in a diverse range of positions within social services. Her clinical experience includes assessment and diagnosis, trauma, crisis intervention, and motivational interviewing. She also offers support and guidance through individual counseling to adolescents, adults, and families.

Sharita holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of West Florida in Social Science with a concentration in Children and Society, as well as a Master’s Degree in Social Work. Her commitment to continued education and evidence-based services continues as she is currently pursuing her Ph. D. in Counselor Education and Supervision.

Charlie Keller is a Clinician at The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio.

After 12 years of leadership and quality assurance in the corporate world, she has transitioned into a full-time role within the mental health field. Her clinical experience includes individual counseling for adults, adolescents, and children. She also specializes in working with life transitions and depression, as well as with the LGBTQ+ population.

Charlie is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio, as well as two Master’s Degrees from Pacifica Graduate Institute.

In her spare time, Charlie is working on her Ph.D. in Depth Psychology and enjoys spending time with her partner, reading, relaxing outdoors, and traveling.

Francis Paul “Goose” de Guzman, serves as an Administrative Assistant for The Steven A. Cohen Military Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio. He manages initial communication with clients, collects and organizes personal information, assists with appointment scheduling, supports the office manager, and staff to ensure operations run smoothly.

“Goose” as many of his friends call him, is a USAF Veteran of twenty-two years. He was a former medic, with vast experience in labor and delivery, emergency, and multi-specialty services.  He spent almost half of his career as a senior aeromedical evacuation technician with over 1900 flight hours. He spent most of his military service in the Pacific, deployed to Afghanistan, and Antarctica.

He’s been married for over 30 years, has two wonderful daughters, and enjoys travelling overseas, and hopes to settle in a small island in the Pacific someday when he grows up.

Gabriela Losoya is a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPC) for The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors, San Antonio.

Gabriela holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio as well as a Master of Science degree for Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Gabriela started in the mental health field in 2020 by volunteering with the Children’s Bereavement Center and completing her internship with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Gabriela was motivated to enter the mental health field to learn more about PTSD treatment with a desire to work with veterans. She is especially passionate about teaching others about PTSD and reducing stigma around mental health disorders.

In her free time, she likes to read, dance, and spend time with those closest to her. She also likes to donate to local charities such as the Food Bank, clothing drives, and animal assistance organizations.

I visited through my Utep Social Work class. It was a great experience as we got to be exposed to a clinic of its kind for the first time. They have great personnel, and make themselves very flexible and helpful for their clients.

For a military clinic it is run efficient like something out of the private sector. The doctors are attentive, the staff is friendly and the location on the east side is easy to get to no matter what side of town you reside in. Highly recommended to anyone that requires medical attention.

The Cohen Clinics at Endeavors offer services provided by credentialed staff trained to work specifically with the military population. Veterans, active duty service members (with a TRICARE referral), and military families can receive mental health care individually and together in the same place, at the same time, with the same treatment team.

Case management support and local referrals to help with education, employment, financial assistance, housing, and legal issues are also available via the Cohen Clinics.

Your support will directly impact Veterans, active duty service members, and military families in need of services addressing depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, sleep problems, adolescent behavioral issues, relationship and family stress, etc.
