Why “National Hire a Vet Day” Is a Big Deal

Veterans Support & Mental Health Care

“Hire a Vet” day is on July 25th! Here are a few reasons why this annual call to action is crucial for Veterans and employers alike.

Did you know? “Hire a Vet” day is on July 25th! National Hire a Vet Day is a call to awareness— every July 25th, employers are encouraged to consider Veterans in their employment pools. Here are a few reasons why this annual call to action is crucial for Veterans and employers alike.

Hire a Veteran Day

Veterans bring so much value to any company.

Research shows that Veterans are entrepreneurial, trustworthy, skilled, and adaptable. Besides technical skills like information technology, engineering, cybersecurity, and more, service members also receive highly developed training in ethics, leadership, and high-stress management. Many of these skills create incredibly successful workers in the civilian world.

According to Danny Hernandez, Endeavors’ Chief Human Resources Officer, Veterans possess a diverse set of skills that can benefit employers.

“They come on board with an immense foundation of training built on discipline and attention to detail,” said Danny. “They possess a wide array of leadership skills and selflessness that aligns well with teamwork, cohesion, and adaptability when working under pressure. Military members perform their missions in diverse settings and communities, and this experience often assists them and the organization in building relationships both internally and externally.”

How can Veterans find participating employers?

Veterans can connect to plenty of local resources to help them find employment! In particular, the Hiring Our Heroes program can help connect veterans, service members, and military spouses with meaningful employment opportunities.

For Veterans who are homeless or about to be homeless and are located in Texas, our Veteran Supportive Services program offers case management, emergency financial assistance, job placement assistance, parenting programs, and skills workshops.

What about Veteran stereotypes?

Unfortunately, some companies and employers manage to pass Veterans over when it comes to the hiring process due to negative or unfair stereotypes. In reality, most Veterans are extremely capable and excited to enter the civilian workforce.

Endeavors can speak to the success of hiring Veterans.

Endeavors is proud to announce that the Texas Workforce Commission has recognized our organization as a We Hire Vets employer program. At least 10% of Endeavors workforce is composed of military Veterans!

Danny Hernandez explained that Veteran’s Endeavors’ has hired are strong employees whose skills and abilities help the organization grow.

Thank you for your sacrifice, Veterans.

When it comes down to it, our military personnel have sacrificed so much to keep us safe. We believe it is the absolute least we could do to consider these brave men and women for employment. Endeavors honorably hires Veterans and hopes this annual day only grows in size and scope!
